Dear Parents/ Carers,

We welcome you all back to pre-school, with a big hello to all the new children and families who are joining us. We finished last term with our afternoon summer fete, which was very enjoyable, thank you to everyone who came and supported the children, also Thankyou you all for the donations of raffle and tombola prizes. We raised £283.50 at the event from the cakes/coffees, stalls, and events. This money raised goes towards replacing and updating resources for the preschool, and enables us to provide a nurturing learning environment. Parents/carers can also help towards fundraising by volunteering at events, to come on the committee, and also by visiting and joining on the “easy fundraising” website- which donates to us via your online purchases (it’s well worth a look!)

Please name all items of clothing and any other belongings that your child may bring in to pre-school. Preschool cannot be held liable for any personal items which may become lost or damaged. As the weather is warm/sunny, please ensure your child has sun screen protection as necessary. Please apply this to your child prior to coming into setting. If you wish it to reapplied whilst your child is in our care, please bring sun product in (named please).Could parents/carers also provide a hat. We ask that parent/carers please continue to bring in donations for snack- this ensures we keep costs down, and funds are used for resources for the children.

Please remember that children’s lunch boxes should contain only healthy foods. The reason for this guidance is in accordance with the government’s healthy eating plan and schools request for no sweets in lunch boxes.

Your child’s key person is always available for you to discuss any queries and welcome any contributions you may have from home to help us be informed of your child’s current interests or achievements, or of things that they do not enjoy as this will help us to plan their learning experiences. These contributions can be made verbally to the key person, in note form, a photograph or it may just be a picture they have drawn or coloured. The “key groups “ are as follows: Mrs Lynn – purple group, Mrs Wilson- Red group, Mrs Stanley – green group, Mrs viscomi- yellow group, Mrs Marfleet – pink group, and Miss Mills- orange group. Preschool also has three support staff; Mrs Nolan, Mrs Storey, and Mrs Mann, and also Mrs Hart who deals with administration.

The internet can be a valuable source of information for parents and professionals. If you would like information on 2yr old funding this can be found on “family information service” (telephone: 08001951635). For more information and support can also be a valuable resource. Please remember to check our outdoor and indoor notice boards, website and Facebook page for information, and please do not hesitate to ask staff for information. We also have a “comments tree” on the window in our foyer, so you can add comments/suggestions and these can be anonymous if you wish.

This term , we will be concentrating on “getting to know you activities” , helping the new children settle in , and those children that were with us previously settle back into the preschool routine. Our activities will follow the children’s interests and key areas for the children’s learning. Most mornings, each keyperson takes their children in their group to participate in small activities concentrating on furthering their learning (we call this “key group”). This is both beneficial to all areas of the children’s learning, and for their development of self-esteem and relationships. We endeavour to support your children and yourselves in whatever way we can, so please feel free to talk to any member of staff if you have any questions or information you would like to share. Parents/carers are invited to join us at “key group”, staff will ask you to join us or please let us know if you’d like to attend.

All activities at preschool follow the EYFS, and the areas of learning i.e.; the “prime” areas – personal social and emotional; communication and language, and physical development. The “specific” areas- literacy, maths, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. If you have any questions concerning the EYFS or on any other subject, please ask staff; we will do our best to answer your query.

Parent helpers: if any parents /carers are able to help out at lunchtime (approx. 12.05- 1pm) we would be most grateful. It can get busy at this period in the day and any help is welcome!

You are free to look at your child’s profile at any time, please ask your child’s keyperson, Mrs Lynn, or Mrs Wilson about this.

Committee News:

The Preschool will be looking to form a fundraising committee. This entails organising ways to raise funds to enable the preschool to purchase and replace toys and equipment. Please do not think that this will take up lots of your time; we aim to have three fundraising coffee mornings/afternoon and a couple of other events. If this is something which you would like to become involved with then please speak to Mrs Lynn.
