Summer term newsletter 2015

Dear parents/carers,

We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break. We would like to welcome our new children and families that join us this term. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our coffee morning, and well done to the children who made lovely decorated baskets for the competition. we raised £301.92.We hope you agree it was an enjoyable event. This money will go towards maintaining resources, and purchasing new ones.
To ensure the safety of the children, we ask that you supervise your child/children at all times whilst waiting to enter the setting. Please do not allow them to play near our oil tank, bikes etc, and keep them in sight- thank you.
Transitions for those children starting school this September, at St John’s Academy, will start this half term. These visits will enable children to become familiar with the school setting, with new people, and help them feel more comfortable with the exciting changes starting school brings. Louis (our persona puppet) will join the children, and the groups will consist of one member of staff taking a small group of children to the class rooms. We are unable to say when your child will visit, but we arrange the visits to ensure all children potentially moving on to the reception year at St John’s get a visit.
As the weather becomes warmer, we would like to request sun hats for the children, and sensible shoes for playing on outdoor equipment. Please put sun protection on when necessary. If you wish for us to put this on in setting, please supply an adequate, named, product, and we need your consent to do so. Also it helps the children (and us!) if all children’s possessions are named please i.e. clothing, lunchboxes, coats etc.
Curriculum-This term we will start planting seeds and watching how they develop. Thank you to everyone who has contributed seeds, plants and pots. We will also be looking at the life cycles of frogs and butterflies.
Our planning will follow the children’s interests, key areas of learning, and also celebrations of the calendar. We will be supporting our new children to feel comfortable in our setting- and help them to build friendships. All our activities help promote learning within the EYFS, and we continue to provide enabling environments for the children, working to their individual next steps. To ensure good practice we continue to develop and improve our resources for the children. Thank you for your continuing support, we always welcome family input and involvement, so please share your child’s interests outside of the setting with us. We are continuing with parents/carers joining us at key group time; so if you would like to come and ‘stay and play’ please speak to your child’s key person

Diary dates

Term 5 –Tuesday 14th April- Friday 22nd May
Red Apple photos- Thursday 16th April – this is open to all children. These photographers take natural poses of the children rather than portraits. If your child does not attend a preschool session on this day, you are welcome to bring them in for a photo (children must be accompanied by an adult at all times please). Red apple will be in setting from 9.05am-2.30pm.

Term 6- Monday 1st June – Friday 17th July (Monday 20th July – Fun day)
Sports day – Tuesday 30th June at 2pm- we will accompany all the children onto the field. If your child does not attend a session that afternoon, we ask that you please bring your child into preschool for about 1.45pm, and then we will meet all parents/carers on the school field. The staff will then accompany the children back into preschool and await your arrival. This is so we know all children have been collected safely. If weather is too wet for safety, the event will be cancelled, and unfortunately another date is not viable. If this happens we will let you know that morning. Please look on our website and face book page for the preschool.
Parties Friday 17th July- School leavers morning session, all others afternoon session – this is open to ALL children. Please bring your child to the relevant party. If your child attends a full day session on this day, they can attend both parties if you wish. We appreciate your support with food donations; this enables our funds to be spent on children’s resources. We will be putting out a list for food donations nearer the time.
Fun day- Monday 20th July- morning only, no normal sessions- this will start at 9.30am and finish about 11.30am. All are welcome; all children must be accompanied by an adult. We will be having stalls, cakes, and the children will be entertaining you all with songs! Please bring along friends and family
